because the Chinese are far superior - & they work cheaper & more skillfully, & are fundamentally the dominant people of the two. It is the energy of Japan, versus the endurance of China. The Japs are already overdoing everything in their country so much that they can't possibly keep it up. They have bitten off more than their stomachs can digest, with the result that they are already having internal revolutions. The Japs can never try to get China without going to war with Russia, England, & the U.S. The only nice Jap Mr Davis ever knew was Mazadari (?), & he [[strikethrough]] wa [[/strikethrough]] is against everything his country is doing. They simply havn't the fundamental dominant qualities necessary to [[strikethrough]] get [[/strikethrough]] fulfill their ambitions. I asked Mr Davis if we'd ever join the League of Nations again, & he said not until it [[strikethrough]] makes [[/strikethrough]] changes its requirements so that we would not be obligated to to settle European wars by getting mixed up in them. I wonder if our sudden acquaintance & intimacy & sudden separation isn't all so out of proportion that it will always remain just an unforgettable little sluice of joy that will [[strikethrough]] rem [[/strikethrough]] always remain [[strikethrough]] untouched [[/strikethrough]] enclosed in its sandwich? I remember [[strikethrough]] his [[/strikethrough]] saying that I felt I'd always known him, & he said of course he did too because time doesn't make any difference at all - but now I wonder? Habit certainly plays no part here, & habit is a strong thing. I suddenly remember that he is musical - very musical. That strikes me as rather [[strikethrough]] sup [[/strikethrough]] surprising, & I like to be surprised. He reads quite well - & he knows endless little songs - which he has sung for hours driving me around. Oh dear - it has been difficult mixing
