outline & the forms drawn in in darks & lights like a pattern - combining one color with the black or brown of the drawing, like Jacoleff's [[Jacovleff's]] - & I still see no solution to that. What a glorious day this is - & I spent it with Lu & Livy & Lily & Doda. I had such fun wasting hours outside with Lily. I am surprised at how I love that child, though I never thought I'd get charmed by any but my own - I even was worried that I had no maternal instinct till yesterday. I am too tired to have accomplished any chores today - but what of it. Why do I feel so peaceful these days? My work shows it too - & that makes me happy & confidant. I worry about marriage these days. I will never find [[strikethrough]] the one & only [[/strikethrough]] a Stewart - & K is far from one I realize now, but he is so well suited & we are so much in love that I don't feel open to [[strikethrough]] falling [[/strikethrough]] finding someone else, & I never meet anyone these days. I am too old now to ignore the fact - & it worries me to think of England & combining the success of a career with marriage -

I have just come home from Aunt Ediths dinner & the preview of Akeley's new African Hall at the Nat. Hist. Mus. The exhibits were marvelous - & all the great scientists & hunters were telling their stories in front of each case. There was a marvelous head by Malvina Hoffman - not old fashioned - & Capt Murray Smith told me lots about each animal. He flirted heavily beside me at dinner, & as he is one of the best hunters I asked if he'd take me hunting for photos in three years. He is going to send me some of his excellent photos which he showed at his movies which I saw the other day - & it begins to look as if my childhood dreams about Africa now seem to be looking up in the distance as possibilities. There were two fat South African women at the museum - one of which has a way with the elephants & hippos as a result of being able to mingle in as one of them - & twice around her hips is once around the room! How I should love to go there with K. I feel very much in love with him tonight. He has been asked to
