again yesterday afternoon - & I bade Ellen goodbye - & am now well underway with my huge lion group which is already as difficult as it is exciting. I got a [[strikethrough]] much [[/strikethrough]] long looked for letter from K which was short & newsy except for the beginning which says he is more sure than ever that he wants me for life, & that I've got to go there next winter, & if we can't marry then I can come back here & "hibernate" for another year. Oh hell I will never go - nor hibernate. If now was next winter perhaps I would, but I want to work now, & next winter - & for two years at least before plunging, & by next winter it will be easier to stay here. Oh hell - I wish the age between 20 & 25 were ten years long instead of 5. It isn't fair that youth and beauty should have to be inexperienced, & take all its plunges then before it is too late. These years are such fun because they are wonderful [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]] if one is studying & in a world that one is aiming toward leading, & youth makes ones presence a pleasure wherever one goes - & one is excused from ignorance.

Everything is exciting - & everyone seems both interested & interesting - & yet it will soon be over. I simply can't face this fact so I will dismiss it. It is interesting to think that I know at least ten contemporaries of mine who will make a splash in the world - & who will excel in their lives - & yet it can't be true that everyone knows 10 people - because so few get to the top, & I wonder if I will be shocked to find them peter out. Mum says when she thinks back she finds that her contemporaries have have done about what was expected of them at my age. The ten are Jo Alsop, Jay Laughlin, Vinton, Nat, Kim, Peter Scott, Babs & John (through Babs - unless they have already had their [[strikethrough]] St J's [[/strikethrough]] splash), Beatrice Straight (through money & sympathy), Dickie Delano, Bill Carter - (me????) others like Lyttleton Fox & Jimmie Smith & Harbison (whom I don't know well enough), Jim Agee, St J, Martha, Johnny West (business), Florence Voorhees, Fuller P, Sarah (through Getschell) I am more doubtful about. Of 40 year olds - I think A. Stewart, & Henry, & Warneke will be very well known & influential sculptors. Goodnight
