MUTUAL INSURANCE

A stable, time-tested growing business institution "of the people, by the people, and for the people," state-supervised, of which you can be justly proud, in which you are assured of positive protection at the lowest cost.

THE HINGHAM SLOGAN

SECURITY
In business since 1826, we have never made an assessment, and to-day for each million dollars at risk we have a cash surplus and reserve of $7,100 and $5,500 respectively.

SAVING
We have returned to policyholders, as reduced insurance cost over rates charged by Stock companies, "dividends" averaging 43% of the premiums collected.

SERVICE
In over a century of changes, operating on the low expense ratio of 20%, while paying out in losses 37% of the premiums, liberal both in classes written and adjustments made, we have devoted ourselves to the teaching that in "prevention before the fire" lies the great hope of the American people.

FIRE PREVENTION

A matter that has produced considerable discussion and some progress, suffice it to say that four-fifths of your fires are preventable. Revised building codes; huge, expensive, and efficient fire departments; enormous expenditures for water supplies; expert inspection; and all other physical means have failed (and will fail) to check materially a waste and an insurance burden that will continue just so long as the American people preserve (or are allowed to maintain) their characteristic attitude of carelessness and indifference toward their fire-safety problems.
