Through letters from his brother, we finally get to learn more about botanist Sidney Fay Blake, who was married to Smithsonian entomologist Doris Holmes Blake. In friendly correspondence between 1919 and 1930, Ralph Blake, located in Massachusetts, wrote to his brother, located in northern Virginia, about some major life events. Ralph Blake provided updates about the conditions of their elderly parents in Massachusetts, teased his brother about newlywed life, and celebrated the birth of his new niece, Doris Sidney Blake. And as if two women named Doris was not confusing enough, it appears that Ralph’s son was also, indeed, named Ralph. Join a group of volunpeers in transcribing this project that sheds light on the close relationship between the two brothers.
