Dear Sid:

It is cooler today, heaven be praised. Everyone said last week was terrible,— regular Wash DC weather. But it began raining late yesterday and poured all night. Lena decided to stay over night, and go in early this morning. It was clear when I got up at 6 and I hustled up breakfast and Doris and I went in on the bus to Boston too with her. We left her at Filene's where I got a pair of shoes. I had to pay $6.90 for them this year. The ones I usually get in the children's dept were gone and only the very broad toed kiddish styles were on view there. So I went to the women's dept. where there was no sale on, and got a good walking shoe of the old kind of welt and calf that is going off the market. They should last a couple of years with what I have on hand. You had better buy some more before they are all gone. Then I got Doris a little pill box hat that sits on the top of her head. The child hasn't had a hat for 3 years, and I was ashamed to take her home on the train bare headed or with only a scarf as when we came up. She was happy enough, and I got Miss Schieber a 75¢ lace collar to send home from here as a reward for the cat box, and some warm winter dress goods for a dress for Ma.
