11 Puerto Armuelles, I July 19, 1967 Going to work in teak plantation again this morning Arrive 5:50 am. Still dark. Clear. 6:50 am Region where Saimiri occur. See pair of more or less "Ordinary Phase" granatensis. Apparently alone, without monkeys around at the time. Unfortunately, they see us too and run away. Then I see a third granatensis, essentially similar in color, in a nearby tree. NOTE: Marcel saw 3 Saimiri in another area. First two, then a single. Possibly preceded by a squirrel. 6:45-7:00 7:20 am. A little further along road. We come across group of Samiri. At least 7 or 8. Probably more. Probably including the 3 seen by Marcel earlier. All animals ranging 10-45 ft up. Mostly in fig tree. Group includes at least 1 adult carrying half grown young (longitudinally) on back. All feeding very actively. Associated with Saimiri is group of 3 Squirrels. All more or less "Ordinary phase" granatensis. Almost certainly same 3 individuals seen earlier. When I see them, the 3 squirrels are slightly to one side of Saimiri. 5-30 ft away Mostly in Cecropia. But Marcel, who came across the group a few minutes earlier than I did, said that at least one of the squirrels was right in the middle of the Saimiri at one time. This is a real "mixed flock" When I see them, the 3 squirrels are engaged in wild chasing back and forth. Quite silent throughout. It looks very much as if a pair and a single individual were engaged in a dispute
