Puerto Armuelles, July 19, 1967, IV (14)

At first, all the Saimiri leap away. Uttering many very loud L Trll's. But they don't go very far away. And the L Trll's continue for only a minute or so.

Then the Saimiri approach and begin Mobbing again. At the same time, the L Trll's stop. The Mobbing becomes very intense within a few second. And this intense Mobbing is accompanied by both QM's and Agg S.

NOTE: This Agg S sounded quite like the corresponding performance of individuals of another subspecies. I have been surprised, in fact, to find that all the sounds of the animals here sound quite like those of individuals elsewhere. I have not been able to detect anything distinctive by ear alone. (But, of course, my ear is not very practised now.)

After some minutes, the Mobbing gradually declines in intensity. First the Agg S stops. Then the QM's become less frequent. And then they are gradually replaced by MGB's. At the same time, the animals begin to disperse. Mobbing may be said to have finished at this stage. And the Saimiri soon fall silent again.

Throughout the whole period of L Trll-AggS-QM-MGB, the squirrels chatter continuously. Their chatter does not sound like any Saimiri pattern

After some minutes, all the animals start to go about their business as before. Paying little or no attention to me But they must be "on edge" just the same. Several times, during the next quarter of an hour, there is another burst of L Trlls in the group. Can't see what provokes these outbursts
