Puerto Armuelles, July 19, 1967, X 20 Suddenly, two individuals (difficult to see) begin to chase one another back and forth. [[underline]] This is accompanied by Agg5 [[/underline]]. Apparently a dispute. 5:50 pm. Marcel shoots another animal (adult female). [[underline]] And this provokes almost no reaction at all [[/underline]]!!! Only a few "Tsit" Notes by one individual. Followed by 1 or 2 QM's. No Mobbing. NOTE: It probably is significant that these "Tsit" occurred at the same "stage" as the 1 Trll's this morning. Another indication that the two patterns are closely related. And the general "calmness" of the animals this evening indicates that "Tsit"s are at least moderately low intensity. 6:15 pm. A large group of Cebus shows up. Includes at least 15 individuals. Lots of juvs. At least 1 infant being carried on back. Ranging 20-40 ft up. Utter some 2,3, and 4 Note "lost calls" ("whaugh whaugh....."). Otherwise silent. Certainly not accompanied by either Saimiri or squirrels. Leaving 6:30 pm. COMMENTS: I am not really sure of the general social structure of Saimiri here. Certainly there is (at least) one large group here. The largest group I have seen here during this trip included approximately 40 individuals. Possibly this is the only large group. But one also sees many smaller social units, of 4-20 individuals. It is my impression that these are only (more or less temporary) "sub-groups" of the one main group.
