Mixed Monkeys I September 23, 1964
Hacienda Barbascal

Going to try patch of forest "Monte Seco" this afternoon. Starting 2:30 pm. Hot and airless.
Forest fairly tall, but obviously fairly young second-growth
2:37pm. See single Red Howler (female) in tree 60 ft above ground. Quite silent. Disappears rapidly.
Some distance further on, hear Titis Singing in distance. Not absolutely certain that they are in same patch of forest. Also several "Laughing Call"s. Going in circular round-robin. Then more full song. (I think that I shall call the "Laughing Call" just "Au Song" from now on.)
No other species seems to be reacting to the vocalizations of these Titis.
2:54. More and more Titis Singing in distance
3:00 pm. Come across group of Squirrel Monkeys. At least 6 inds - probably more. In very mixed forest with some big trees. Inds ranging 40-60 ft above ground. Quite scattered. Often 20-30 ft apart. Quite vocal. Probably as reaction to me. Lots of Brr Notes. Some Q's. Some intermediates between Q and Brr. Possibly some MGB. Possibly lots of long, loud, very high pitched Wstl's. Group quickly disappears.
3:32. Much further on, see single Cebus apella. Adult Walking along large branch, 30-40 ft above ground. Silent or utters 2 or 3 soft, single , Bark-type noises
