This is an area approximately 1 hour's horseback journey from Valparaiso. More or less down river. Altitude 950 ft
Lots of rain around middle of day. We finally start into forest 3:20 pm. Rain tapering off. Soon stops. But forest just dripping. And still dripping now 4:40 pm.
Forest looks beautiful. Like Barro Colorado or better
But we haven't seen a single monkey here this afternoon. Although I am assured that there are quite a few (see also below). I.E. it is beginning to look very much as if all
the monkeys of the region stop moving when it turns wet and cool. Not only the tamarius.
The owner of the finca at which we are staying shot a spider monkey here within the year ! Black above, golden below. I have seen [[?]] myself). He also says that there are a few Woollies around. But both Woollies and spiders obviously have become very rare.
Our new guide (Aristedes) gave me some more information about the local Callicebus. And gave a good description of it. Certainly moloch. And he says that it is
