Weather was clear and sunny when we started out. But now, 2:25 p.m., beginning to cloud over.

Then the sun comes out again after a half hour. And we continue observations until 4:30 p.m. Without seeing or hearing (another) trace of any kind of a monkey!

COMMENT: The fact that may or all of the monkeys here seem to be inactive much of the time may be an indication that food is "superabundant" here.

If so, what else is the limiting factor????

September 9, 1968
La Deseo

Start out at 6:00 a.m. Weather fine and sunny. Not too hot yet. Then we walk all the way to the Salado. Which we reach at 7:30 a.m. And we do not hear or see a single monkey on the way!!!

8:02 a.m. Some considerable distance further. See single adult Brocket (Mazama) in region second growth forest. Comparatively tame. Dull gray buff in color.

8:15 a.m. Region of what looks like old second growth. Lots of moderately tall trees. Also lots of understory. Come across small groups of Woolies. Apparently 3 adults and 1 half grown independent young. All moving thru trees 30-50 feet up. Movements generally slow and surprisingly quiet. One individual (probably the young) uttered occasional
