Trll's Moves off. Uttering mostly L Trll's with very occasional Grunt or brief Roar. First animal, still hidden, continues L Trll's. Now also with occasional brief Grunts or Roars. A couple of minutes later, third animal shows up. Moving in same direction. Usually 40-60 ft up. Utters Roars and L Trll's when it sees us. Then moves on silently. First animal utters louder L Trill's when it sees third appear. A few minuted later, again, fourth animal appears moving in same direction! It does not vocalize.

Two of the animals leapt down into low scrub, 10-15 ft up, during their escapes. But probably only because this was the only way of getting from one tree to another. I.E. Sakis are capable of coming low (perhaps even to the ground?) but only do so when they have to.

The behavior of the first and second animal(s) of this group might suggest that the L Trill is used as a contact call. Or location call.

Stop observations 4:55 pm.

NOTE: We emerged from this forest at a place different from the one leg which we entered. And I find that this forest is the one right behind the INCORA Station in which Mike worked last June. Thus the group of 4 Sakis which I saw today probably is the same as the group seen by Mike. No change in number during the intervening months. Unfortunately, however, this is not necessarily very significant. There may be no more than 4 Sakis, sum total, in the whole patch of forest.
