ADDITION. I have talked to Aristides again: He confirms that Sakis are absent from the woods where we saw and heard Callicebus this morning. And, after seeing where the Sakis were this afternoon, I find it difficult to believe that this can be due to unsuitability of habitat alone. Competition also must be involved. Presumably competition with Callicebus itself. Possibly titis are at a relative advantage wherever tangles are particularly thick. And Sakis wherever tangles are not particularly thick. Viz the different locomotory habits of the two types.

Going to work in Landing Field forest again. Reach edge of forest 6:20 am. Cloudy, but doesn't look like immediate rain. No wind. Everything quiet in forest.

8:03 am Region of second growth with lots of thin vertical tree trunks. I.E. ideal fuscicollis habitat. See single bright red squirrel (same species as at La Deseo) 6 ft up. Running vertically, head down, down trunk. Silent Definitely alone.

8:20 am. Near comparatively loud, long, rather harsh and slightly growling Roar by Saki in distance. Apparently coming from area of fairly mature forest. Much louder, and perhaps harsher, than any Roar of the species heard before. Presumably an intraspecific dispute?
