El Pepiuo
September 17, 1968

Reach small path of woods side of road 4:45 pm. Obviously second growth. And not very old. Cecropias on edges. Occasional semi-open, low scrub, areas between trees. On very steep slope (going down to the Rio Pepino itself). Entirely surrounded by pasture and pasture-like scrub.

My guide (young Fuhrbringer) tells me that there is a group of Pygmy Marmosets in this tiny wood.

And sure enough, we see and hear them almost immediately. And continue observing them, semi-intermittently, until 5:55 pm.

The first indication of their presence was an unritualized, irregular, series of single Whistles. All very faint. High pitched. But not quite as much so as I expected.

These were given while the animals were some distance away from us. Quite possibly not provoked by us. And certainly some Whistles were given "in answer" to Whistles of other individuals.

Possibly one or more single Trills also were uttered. Quite similar to Whistles. Like faint versions of Callicebus Trills. Presumably [[image]]

I think that there were three individuals in this group. Quite coherent on the whole. Inds usually 6-20 ft apart. Definitely following one another. Usually
