using same routes (trunks and branches).
According to Fuhrbringer, the species always occurs in small groups. No more than 8-10 inds. He also says that it is characteristic of patches of wood or forest surrounded by open and/or cultivated ground. He said that it is not usually seen in "monte alto".

He says that they are very sedentary. Each group usually confined to is own little path. But Sr. Fitzgerald (the director of the campamento here) says that he has seen them cross the road. I.E. they may come down to the ground for the same reason(s) as S. geoffroyi.

The individuals we saw this afternoo ranged through a great variety of heights above ground. From 5 ft (or less) to 40 ft (or more). They passed from one group of trees to another thru very low scrub (rather than via some high branches which were also available) According to Fuhrbringer, this is typical. Inds of the species almost always prefer to pass low rather than high.

Their method of locomotion was rather distinctive. They spent a lot of time moving up and town vertical or near vertical trunks and branches. Usually or always by little leaps. The two front limbs moving together; and the two hind limbs moving together. Very often little leap - brief pause - little leap - brief pause......... They often backed down vertical trunks, at least for short distances. I don't think that I ever saw them go down a vertical or near vertical surface head downward
