This seems to be a niche which is not filled by any other monkey!!! (Or [[lemurol?]])

NOTE: Some time before I observed this supposed licking, I saw one of the Pygmies apparently gnawing at the bark of another tree. But I couldn't follow the proceeding very well.

Eventually the Pygmies became aware of our presence. This did not cause them to move away (far) but it did provide some hostile (alarm) reactions.

Some squirrel-like dodging behind trunks. But (again) rather less than I expected.

Some SS. Quite extreme. But not necessarily very ritualized. A "zag" to one side. Then a "zig" to the other. Rhythm quite irregular. Sometimes appreciable pauses between "zigs" and "zags".

At least one individual which was alarmed but still came close to us did extreme TR. Involving hairs of whole tail. (This was a definite display. Inds. moving about relatively undisturbed at greater distance did not have their tail hairs ruffled.). All the hairs of the head and "mane" were quite smooth. (They certainly were not raised in any way. But I am not sure that they were actually depressed. And I think that the more distinct undisturbed inds. had the same small, relatively "small headed" look.). The ind. near us also maintained MO and/or (less probably) BT during the whole period of TR. But no sign of any special gait such as Oozing.
