Accordingly to our Indiand guide (Antuco), this forest is unhabited by Sakis and Tamarisis, which would suggest that torquatus (underlined)is confined to taller forest than Pithecia! (underlined)
He also says Cebres (underlined) apella (underlined)comes down into this forest occasionally. Usually on the even swaller slopes of minor valleys. But that the bulk of the population of the species is further back in the hills.
NOTE: Apparently Saimiri does not occur in either the forest visited today or in the further hills. F. E. it seems to be completely confirmed to the low lands. F.E. hill country may be the only habitat where apella (underlined) occurs frequently without having Saimiri in the near vicinity.
On the way back from the forest this afternoon, we passed a couple of Pygmy areas.
One area is still inhabited. Antuco says that there is a group of le vids there. Buth we only saw two and very briefly. Once approximately 10 ft up on (?). Another time 30 ft up in the tree. Quite silent, shy. Disappeared inmediately.
The area is really a long (?) " hedge-lilie" strup of forest. On sides very (underlined) steep (underlined)ravine. Looks sencond growth (perhaps really sencondary). But some trees 40+ ft tall. At its evident, the streps of forest is no (underlined) more (underlined) than (underlined) 10 yards across.
There are two conspicuous hole trees in the strep
