El Pepino
February 19, 1970

Come back here this afternoon (to find whole road to Pasto washed out?)
Go take a look at Pygmy Marmoset area by road ca 4:00pm Animals still there. See 2 or 3 inds., apparently on way to old sleeping area. Silent
See old feeding tree. According to Robin Foster, this is a Coussapoa sp. Seems to have less holes now than earlier. Many of the lower ones seem to have disappeared
Possibly overgrown with moss or lichens.
Altitude of F's house 2335 ft according to my altimeter now.
NOTES. Stopped to talk to a hunter at Puerto Umbría on way up. About "Chichico negro grande," presumably Callimico. We had some information. And then I found that [[Antico aho?]] is familiar with the animal. And he had better, at least more extensive, information.
Species apparently found in both "rastrojo" and "monte grueso" (on slopes and "lomas"). Even more surprisingly, it is frequently ("always") associated with Saimiri. 2-5 individuals of the Chichico per band of Squirrel Monkeys!
It all seems very strange indeed
Altitude of Umbría is 1125 ft. according to my altimeter.

Transcription Notes:
the word "Chichico" is used to refer to pocket monkeys so I assumed it was what was written, possibly wrongly interpreted
