A few minutes later and a few yards further on, we find Tom. He has found an infant Callimico (2-3 mos old?) Crouched motionless in rather exposed tangle of vines 8 ft up. Head down. Tip-coiling but no TR. Uttering lots of long series of many Whistles. ( I shall call this pattern "WLW"

[[symbols describing the sound pattern]]

for the time being. WLW's of the young apparently quite like those of adults but somewhat lower in pitch on the average. Young utters many WLW's without visible movement.

As uttered in these crcs, WLW's of young could be distress and/or fright.

Then we move a few yards off.

Young continues WLW's at a slower but rather regular pace.

Obviously this young has been left behind by the adults when we surprised them earlier. And it will not move until they come back or give an all clear signal !!!

After some minutes, adults start to return. At first moving 6-25 ft up mixed bamboo scrub. Uttering occasion WLW's at irregular intervals. Eventually "duetting" begins. Most of young WLW's obviously response to those of adults, an adult begins, young starts a few seconds later, while adult call continues. Young call finishes a few seconds after adult.

Once young utters WLW in response to sound of branch crashing as adult leaps.
