When we come back at noon, the young is very active and vocal. Lots WLW's at first These decline as it gets fed and handled. Lots of Rasps, Squeaks, and a few High Trills in the process. Long periods of rather irregularly alternating Rasps and series of Squeak-like notes. Some of the latter may have been low intensity rather slurred, WLW's. Others may have been "pure" Squeaks and nothing else (but I cannot be sure about this). Many of the Rasps and perhaps some of the Squeaks and Squeak-like notes were plaintive or whining in tone. This is certainly much more like the Infantile Squeak-Infantile Rasp performances of Sanguinus than anything I have heard from the species earlier(Contrast with Milmoss. Is this animal younger?)
NOTES: The adult Callimico are as sly as any monkeys I have ever encountered. While the young tame more early than any I have raised. Is this correlated with the peculiar anti-predator behavior of the species? If so, how?
Go back to usual island 3:40 p.m. Overcast. Very hot. No wind.
3:45. Region mixed forest with tall trees. Little bamboo. See small group (2-3?) fuscicollis. 20 ft up. Run away into taller trees with Trll's. Apparently no Callimico with them.
Stopping observation 5:20 p.m.
