Dear Doris,

Another pleasant day with the temperature at 30°. yesterday Ralph + Maude came. they were pretty smokey smelling. Ralph had on his spring coat + it was a pretty tight fit, where he had grown fat this winter, Maude felt discouraged over her fire. after having her house newly papered + painted the house was filled with smoakend spoilt everything. Ralph was cleaning up the kitchen all day Sunday.
I suppose you had a holiday yesterday all day.
I tried to hear the speaking going on down there over the radio, but Pa turned it off every time I listened in + said he could'nt stand it, he never tries to hear the news flashes now, he takes no interest in whats going on around him. his old troubles are all he wants to think about now a days.
I have finished my bed quilt Maude thinks its handsome + wants me to teach her to make a square. I told her that it was the pattern you liked best + that I made it on purpose for you. a good many of the pieces she gave me + she recognized them in the quilt. Maude would never make them up in a quilt people dont stay at home long enough to do such work.
