Dear Doris

This letter I am writing the night before its after supper & the day has been very sunny but a cold west wind has made it a far differant day from yesterday.

We are far from hearing the frogs peep or going a maying here. but its a nice open winter with lots of warm pleasant days thrown in.

Mrs Boleord & Little Mabel have just been here a calling on us. she is a nice little child to take away from home she wanted to take home the little rocking chair. she is a pretty little thing but not very affectionate I should judge. but may get through the world all the better for that. I was just coming down stairs about one O'clock & who should be ringing our door bell but Mr. Herrick. he was going by the house on his dayly [[daily]] tram & stopped to see how we were he said.

Pa dont like callers he hides up after Mrs. Boleord went away he said a spell came over him while she was here & he thought he was going to die. he was probably scart [[scared]]
