3. Why should elapsed time count from the time chosen for take-off the night before rather than from the drop of the flag on actual take-off. What would happen if one had to move up time of take-off for weather reasons? Would he get that much "edge" on the others? And why should one not have liberty to delay take-off for any valid reason, such as weather or obstruction on field at appointed time, etc.? I did not know about this rule last year until my appointed time for take-off had already elapsed.

One hates to weight himself down with expense and the ship with tanks for a non-stop to New York against previous records only to find that he must stop anyway enroute, with the whole loss of time as a handicap against previous Los Angeles to New York records and some part of it as a loss of time even in the Los Angeles-Bendix dash. I would like to take that record away from Fuller if possible.

Sincerely,

(Miss) Jacqueline Cochran

P.S.: The race on from Cleveland to the Bendix Field is in fact a separate race. Why should there not be some points for this race applying to the Henderson Trophy as well as for the Bendix, Thompson and Greve; and if this is impractical for any reason, at least there should be some points given in addition to all other points if someone succeeds in breaking the record on to the Bendix Field.
