anything for him to do. I told him there had been three boys here already for the job & I had saved it for him as we promised. he is a good little worker & smart. I never gave him but a quarter for mowing the lawn, he carts my ashes & spreads it down through the grove for the same he is deserving of more. but seems satisfied. I almost forgot to mention the check I received you should have kept it too bad it does you no good you are very generous & it is appreciated. if I only had something for you it dont seem right. I am making tatting for Gertrude's hankerchiefs. I gave her a piece it trimmed one & Addie told Mrs Barry there was most enough for two. Gertrude never would have mentioned it. so I made some more it did not take me long to do. Gertrude always remembers me Xmas & my birthday. she is very generous. the other two are different. I have just raked down my fire for the first time. have not done so before to day. it has been so windy. now am preparing it for night. the wind may go down. I keep my fire all night & all winter it has not been dumped but two or three times. it saves coal and kidlings & makes it as good to bake with next day. she never has been used to a coal fire. but runs it pretty well day times. she cant make a fire to save her life. she says I am an expert. Lawrence always started her fire in Holbrook. he is still there, working at odd jobs. she sends him money occasionally. he helped her take care of her husband & is always very faithful. not naturalized a pole so the town dont help him. he is very deserving though.
