funeral. I guess they did not hear of it. Estelle said she left it with Bessie to notify & guess she neglected to do so. they had their hands full and Estelle said Bessie hurried her burial much to their disapproval. The sun is just appearing I think there is coming more snow soon we feel the snowy air a chilliness. Gladys came just called to see us she was on the way to Brockton expected to get a job or see about one. she had not had work since sometime in November. she was looking fine, a very pretty girl. I told her where Alice hired. she called on her, I directed her there. her mother is still waiting & Bert has moved, she kept house for him this summer, while the wife was with the campfire girls. Alice could not leave Frank Poole. Gladys ahs more pity. I think she is good & wish she might marry and have a home of her own. Alice is foolish to live as she does. but she likes an easy life & will always get one. I guess the lame & lazy are provided for in this world sure. I am enjoying the figs. the box of stationary was very nice & I like it you were very generous. Gertrude gave me a box of candy as usual Mrs Barry eat the most of it. chocolate does not agree with me. I hope your arm & shoulder are improving. did the gloves fit Doris? they were pretty. I tried to knit some but these were better more dressy. the Post man has not been here this week. today was a holiday. I give my mail to any body who happens to be going down street. Southworth is going to be retired in another year I don't think any body will feel very sorry he is an old grouch with everybody. no one speaks a good word for him. too bad to go through life like that. Ma.
