An effort to dig out the otters was a failure owing to the network of roots & stones in the way.
Above the valley we rode up to a high rolling mesa country covered with pines & oaks & some open parks. Here [[Imp.?]] Ivorybills occur but we saw none. The object of our visit was to get dup. types of a Heteromys taken by Dr. Butler. One spec. only was taken.
Mch 26 left La Laguna & reached San Sebastian over our old trail today.
Mch 27 Went 3 m. below San Sebastian to the Hda. of La Cuadrilla to get more dup. types of Butlers. This is upper tropical. Staid here till 30th & then went on toward the coast. A few miles below "La Cuadrilla" the trail led out on the point of a narrow knife edged tongue of land extending out for half a mile between two deep cañons.
