of the town reached the Hotel "Bola de Oro" where we found quarters in rooms opening on a broad veranda fronting the public square. The town impressed me as having considerable wealth judging from the general appearance of the houses & buildings.

We remained at Tepic. Some work was done in the surrounding valley but little was taken of much interest. A small opossum (marmosa) being the most notable. This town is at zero ft. At upper border of tropical zone.Palms, oranges, chirimoyas, mangoes &c are grown in gardens. The plain here is in the form of a long [[strikethrough]] narrow [[/strikethrough]] rather narrow valley with a mt. rising just back of Tepic to about 7500 ft. (Ceboruco) "San Juan Buey" On the other side of the valley to the east of the town some 15 miles is another mt. of about equal height.
