Rubber trees, Pithecolobinum & Tamarind trees with a few gourd trees were found in the yards. The town is located on low land at the mouth of a lagoon & the tide flats extend along a narrow channel through the town. At high tide these are flooded & add to the picturesque appearance of the town but at low tide they are bare & given up to fiddler crabs, crows, blackbirds & waders along the edge of the water.
The crows (Conus Mex.) are very plentiful & extremely familiar. Their notes are very weak & hoarse. They come familiarly into the yards & corrals alighting within a few steps of the people. The boat-tailed grackles were equally familiar. Their odd strutting walk & uneven voice give them an appearance of absurdity. 
One flew into the dining room one morning & alighting on a long vacant [[strikethrough]] [[??]] [[/strikethrough]] table walked very deliberately down half its length & dipped its beak into a jug of milk. Taking a single draught it cocked up its head & tail & with an air of scorn walked slowly back to the end of the table & flew out of the window. The absurdity of this performance was very
