as much heat as we did in winter I am writing my letter here in the kitchen near the stove. I have missed you here & shall be glad when you come back in August on your summer vacation.
We had the fire engine here yesterday for a fire over in the next house. the Prefellows kitchen stove got on fire with so much grease in the oven. all the neighborhood turned out. the excitement was soon over. Addie Ballantine came over to witness it & asked the fire chief what caused it. they sold the gas stove to them when they bought the house. it seems nothing but hard luck the poor family have

struck ever since they come here to live. I pity them.
Miss Ballantine is sick in bed so Addie told us. we think she will never be any better her change of residence was bad for her. they never could get along with Miss Seriac & they fight like cat & dog most of the time I guess. I always liked Gertrude. am glad she can be gone to her work during the day. the old aunt never speaks ill of her family. she is always very lady like. but they talk about her to everybody. I was in hopes it would be pleasant today but it says showers through
