Washington, D. C. 20005

Dear Dr. Hansen:

Beginning this year, the American Chemical Society has been asked to administer the James Bryant Conant Award in High School Chemistry Teaching sponsored by the E. I. duPont de Nemours and Co., Inc. Six such awards will be made annually, one in each of six geographic districts embracing the Country. Among other things, each Award carries with it a stipend of $1000.00 and a special certificate. In the competition for this Award, each Local Section of the American Chemical Society may submit only one candidate.

It is a pleasure to inform you that the Chemical Society of Washington has chosen Mrs. ELAINE M. KILBOURNE, of Anacostia High School, as its nominee for this Award from among the many excellent teachers of chemistry in the Greater Metropolitan Area covered by our Section. She will stand in competition with other teachers from a number of other States. We believe that we have many dedicated and inspiring chemistry teachers in our area and this nomination is one means of recognizing this. We feel we have chosen a most worthy nominee, and have submitted detailed information in support of our candidate to the American Chemical Society. She is richly deserving of our heartiest congratulations

We also take pleasure in acknowledging the excellent support we have received from Mr. KEITH C. JOHNSON, Science Supervisor
