September 13, 1966

Mrs. Elaine M. Kilbourne
5504 23rd Place, Southeast
Washington, D. C. 20031

Dear Mrs. Kilbourne:

I have just read in the Washington Post of Tuesday, September 13, 1966 that you have been selected as one of the recipients of the James Bryant Conant Award in High School Chemistry Teaching sponsored by the E. I. dePont de Nemours and Co., Inc. This is truly a significant honor worthy of the highest praise.

To have been selected as one of six teachers in the Nations to receive this award is an achievement of great distinction. We are all very proud of you, for in addition to the personal satisfaction which you receive, we of the school system, are also the beneficiaries.

I would like very much to present you to the Members of the Board of Education at the next meeting on Wednesday, September 21, 1966 at 2 p.m. in the Board Room at the Franklin Administration Building. Members of your family are also cordially invited as well as your principal, Mr. Auburn J. Lamb, and the Supervising Director of Science, Mr. Keith Johnson.

Congratulations and best wishes.

Very sincerely yours,

Carl F. Hansen
Superintendent of Schools
