Elaine Kilbourne graduated from the New Jersey State Teachers College in Upper Montclain, in 1944, obtained an M.A. degree from Columbia University in 1947. While serving in an extracurricular capacity as Science Education Specialist for the Food and Drug Administration, she wrote 10 student science projects now used by seniors in high school chemistry. 
In 1955 she received a special award from the Chemical Society of Washington for excellence in teaching. The award was unique, created specially to recognize her contribution to teaching. In 1958and 1963, she received Principal Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching by the District of Columbia. 
An average of nine to ten of her students per year go on to major in science at colleges. Several have won Ph.D's.

Dear Mrs. Kilbourne:

Around the end of this month, we will send you a letter giving full particulars concerning the arrangements for preservation of the Conant Award. You should plan to arrive in Miami Beach no later than the morning of April 10. The presentation will take place that evening in the Fontainebleau Hotel. You should handle the details for the hotel*, flight tickets, etc., and then submit your bill to me for reimbursement after the meeting. You do not have to register for this meeting inasmuch as we will send you your complimentary registration badge and tickets to the reception and dinner.
