Mrs. Elaine M. Kilbourne
5404 23rd Place, S.E.
Washington, D.C.

Dear Mrs. Kilbourne:

Innovations in chemical education, at the high school level, are proceeding at a rapid pace. New curricula, teaching materials, audio-visual aids, models, equipment and the like are being developed and experimentation in the classroom is underway in many parts of the world. It would be extremely valuable to learn of such experimentation and new materials. An excellent way of accomplishing this is by means of a joint conference.

The American Chemical Society is planning to sponsor such a conference on "Recent Developments in High School Chemical Education." The purpose of the conference would be:

1. to identity new approaches that have been developed in many countries for teaching high school chemistry.

2. to provide information about these new approaches to chemical educators in the United States and other countries.

3. to create a working relationship with chemical educators in many countries so that a continuous exchange of new ideas will develop.

The conference is planned so that a participant representing a foreign country where innovations have been developed, will report formally on the major curriculum activities in his country and demonstrate or exhibit new materials and teaching aids. The conference will begin on Tuesday, August 29, 1967 and last through Saturday, September 2, 1967, and will be held at the American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C. Approximately 10-15 participants are expected to attend from outside the United States and about 25 from the U.S.
