Dear Mother,

I have just time to dash off a note to you to explain my recent silence.

There has been a terrific amount of work to do in the office, and that's where I keep my stationary and stamps. One girl is on vacation and she had the busiest job of all, so the other two of us have to pitch in and do double duty. The girl who is taking her place is 16 years old and very inexperienced, so she doesn't add that much good.

Also, on almost every free lunch hour I have been going out on job interviews, today for example and last Friday and Thursday. Hence I have had very little free time to dash off a line. There are several interesting possibilities being offered, and I will have to decide between them in due time.

We're all well otherwise, although Bean still has to have more stiches taken in his arm. He gets my Blue Cross coverage, anyway.

That's about all the time I can snatch away from work today, but I thought I'd better get something out to you before you got worried!

Love,

Doris
