Dear Mother,

Excuse me for not writing last week. I was kept very busy at work and took up several lunch hours in interviewing for other jobs. That will include today, when I go to taking a typing test at a publishing company, MacMillan, at which a better typing job is offered with possibilities of advancement into editorial work.

It is still pretty chilly here, and rainy; I got caught this morning on the way to work and got a little wet.

No news really, another reason for not writing sooner. In answer to your question about that other fellow who was staying with us, he has left, a long time ago (January). He wasn't living up to his obligations, and I told him he had to go, so he went. I bought a new cylinder lock for under $5 and Dean installed it, at considerable savings over what the locksmith charges (about $30!) for having our place secure.

Our rent has been reduced, almost to the amount I paid when I first moved in, which is a relief. I have forms to fill out for it today if I have a chance. But this morning is a busy one. I have to mail out our publications to people who pay for them, and a lot came in this morning, in addition to which I have a lot of form mail to send out. I shall be very thankful for a more interesting job, which I should get before long if I keep looking.

Glad you finally got your lot harrowed and can begin planting.

Hope your trip to New England is in time for some real summer weather, although from what we have been having up to now I guess it may not be during a heat wave!

Love,

Doris
