                                                     March 12, 1973

Dear Mother,

Excuse the long silence. I was pretty busy, and then had a cold last weekend, which is all a[[strikethrough]] gone now.

The most interesting thing now is a little word game devised by a woman in my office but not actually invented by her. It involves taking a four-letter word and evolving it into another four-letter word by changing one letter at a time, always to a legitimate word. An example would be:

                       LOVE
                       LAVE
                       HAVE
                       HATE
The idea is j[[strikethrough]] to choose interesting pairs of words and try them out. I worked out dozens, and then wrote up a little description of the game. I sent it to Dean's literary agent, Chuck Neighbors, with the idea that we might just possibly get it syndicated(In daily newspapers, like a crossword puzzle). Chuck was quite enthusiastic and is approaching the companies. So the chances are slim of making a buck, but it has been fun.

It is getting warm here, and Marchy - rain suddenly, then sun, with quite a bit of wind. I guess Washington is feeling spring too. It hasn't been a bad winter at all, with no snow.

That's all about the news here. Take care of yourself.
                                 Love,
                                 Doris
