Dear Mother, 

It must have been a good feeling to get a $5 00 check for your [[assistance?]] and a personal letter from the V.P. of United Fruit! That reminds me: I haven't yet been returned a story I sent out to "True Confessions" (entitled "Why I Hated My Wife So Much I Killed the Baby", a gory story that should suit that magazine), so maybe they will accept it: it would bring in about $200 according to Dean. Oh, I just called their office and informed they hadn't received it. I can't find a copy so must re-write it, darn it!

I am applying for Unemployment assistance, which amounts to $75 tax-free dollars a week, and should be receiving it within about 5 weeks. Dean is not eligible to apply for it because he was always self-employed. It will help.

The foot is coming along very well, and he is walking almost normally--for short distances, that is. It is tough for a 6'2" powerful man to be laid up helpless for so long! He wants to meet you very much and will surely be on his feet by Christmas.
