Dear Mother,

I hope the flood did not disturb you too much. I heard that the area was considered a disaster area but did not worry about you too much because I knew you lived on high ground. We in New York were promised a taste of Agnes, but it avoided us, except for providing an increasingly boring series of rainy or misty days. I hope the rain did not damage your garden too much.

I have been quite well lately, almost recovered from an annoying sinus condition at last. A lot of my friends are suffering from exactly the same malady, namely a stuffy nose (no cold) and a lot drainage, as if we had an allergy. If it was too bad, I took "Contac", which clears it up for about 12 hours, as I advised a friend yesterday.

On Friday night I started to write a novel, it having been occurring to me for some time. I wrote most of the weekend and intend to continue all of my spare time. it is a lot of fun. Last week, on the advice of a friend in the business, I also wrote a letter to the school asking them for some word on my prospects of admission. There is another school in the city offering the same program, and
