Dear Doris:

My income tax papers and check have gone off and now I must do the Virginia one, but that is always relatively easy. This year the papers instead of going to Philadelphia as in the past go to Memphis, Tenn. The District and Maryland still go to Philadelphia. And we used to send ours to Richmond. It has all become so complicated that I don't see how they keep anything straight, even with computers. And after I've done all this I'shall have to make an appointment with the dentist. Just one damned thing after another, and as I grow older they all seem to loom up big and hard.

Do get after your psychiatrist and have him write a good letter to your Columbia Univ. public health people. I want to you to get that grant again, so do your darnedest, go and plead with them if necessary. I am wondering if Geo-town has courses leading to a public health degree if you should fail to get it there. You could live at home and attend that for a year if all else fails, but I'd hate to pay your way for a year living in N.Y. You've got to get some other sort of job besides typing for your own happiness and self esteem and get to meeting others of your own station in life, not take up with the poor souls in the hospital clinic entirely.

We are having a very slow spring here, - the storm of last week end of snow and sleet caught the early flowering peaches and plums and other shrubs and I don't think I'll get any plums this year. It was below freezing for several nights. The magnolias have all turned brown. But yesterday I noticed my lettuces was coming up. I hope to have a good garden with tomatoes, fresh beans, corn and other things all ripe when you come down.

I've done nothing but sneeze, sneeze, sneeze for the past week. And my eyes water and nose drips. It isn't any code but some allergy - I had it last spring. It is just as disagreeable as any head code though. I trust that you are keeping well and getting some fun out of life.

With love,
