Dear Doris:

My income tax papers and check have gone off, and now I've got the Virginia tax to make out, but that is always relatively easy. This year the Federal income tax papers instead of going to Philadelphia as in the past go to Memphis Tenn. (DC and Maryland income & [[?]] still go to Philadelphia) I think we need to send the Federal to Richmond if I'm not mistaken. It has all become so complicated that I don't see how they can keep anything straight even with computers [[strikethrough]] and all [[/strikethorugh]] or anything else. And after that's done, I'll make an appointment with the dentist. Just one damned thing after another [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] and as I grow older all these seem very big and hard to do.

Do get after your psychiatrist and get him to write a good letter to your Columbia Univ. public health people. I want you to get that grant and do your darnedest, and go plead with them if necessary. I am wondering if Geotown has courses leading to the public health degree if you should fail to get it there. You could live here at home and attend that for a year if all else fails, but I'd hate to try to pay your way a year living in N.Y. You've got to get some other sort of job besides typing for your own happiness and self esteem, and get to meeting others of your own station in life, not take up with the poor souls in the hospital clinic entirely.

We are having a very slow spring here - the storm last weekend of snow and sleet caught the early flowering peaches & plums and I don't think I'll have any plums this year. It was way below freezing for several nights. [[strikethrough]] The cherry trees were and [[/strikethrough]] The magnolias [[strikethrough]] too were brough forward [[/strikethrough]] all is coming up. But [[strikethrough]] some thin I have [[/strikethrough]] yesterday noticed my lettuce is coming up. I hope to have a good garden with tomatoes, beans and corn all well when you come.
