Dear Jack,

I am writing to you because I am worried about Doris. She wrote this week she was taking on a job selling exercise machines her spare time and would have to get a 2nd hand VW to go about doing it. That in itself just worries me to pieces. Then she called both Fri and Sat night. Friday night she asked if I would loan her $3000 up, that she [[strikethrough]] planned [[/strikethrough]] looking into getting a coop apt. And Sat night she was full of the car and driving it about. [[strikethrough]] There was [[/strikethrough]] It seemed to be such a euphoric condition; she was so capable, was so sure of everything, that all my fears that she is on a manic phase again both for spending money and doing impossible things. I wish you'd investigate and see if she is all right and perfectly sane. I know she has been working awfully hard and it might be causing her to get in this state again. Please let me hear from you about it.

Your mother wrote last week that she was worried about my brother who wasn't as well as usual and as her niece was going on a trip to Japan, she didn't feel like leaving him. She said she was uneasy about you as she hadn't heard recently from you. So you see how we mothers worry.
