The number of Rations furnished during the month to the sick and destitute adults in Howard Hospital was 2,480, to the children in Howard Orphan Asylum that are unable to provide for themselves 1,023 and to employees 1209 making a total of 4774.

Schools their tuition
There were three schools in operation during the month, and show an increased attendance over last report. The schools at the Asylum have closed for the summer; will open the 1st of October. The continued increase of attendance during the past year, and the advancements made by the children in their studies, as will be seen by the school reports, are highly creditable to the Teachers, and conclusive evidence that the Freedmen are fully awakened to the necessity of improving themselves to meet their new and responsible duties.
In regard to their ideas of the Marital relations, there is much improvement over former habits and customs that had been a source of more trouble than [[?]] this complaint
