Major; I would respectfully state - - two months since two freedmen viz; John and Martha Battee were received as patients into the Hospital at this place, They were sent from Jackson, and, I suppose, by the request of the Sub Asst. Com'r at that point. These freedmen are discontented there, and want to be sent back to Jackson, where, they inform me, they have relations that will take care of them, I would request that you ascertain whether their statement is correct; and whether by sending them to their relatives they will be properly cared for and relieve the Government of any further are, and inform this office of the
