[[Office Howard Asylum,]]
Lauderdale, Miss. Aug. 12th 68

Joseph Eakin,
Sheriff.

Sir,
I am sorry you have thought proper to disregard the order relative to Samuel West and Amanda Williams, [[I]] have been endeavoring to procure the arrest of those parties for three weeks, but have been [[baffled?]] by parties who have manifested a determination to prevent their arrest. When [[I]] directed the arrest to be made by yourself, [[I]] did so in full confidence that you would comply at once, which I am sorry you have failed to do. I have full Confidence in the Grandjury, and doubt not but they [[are]] Gentleman, who will discharge their duty, and had those parties been ordered before them, should be entirely satisfied; but as they were ordered before. J. C. Porter Esq., it is important that they be brought before him at once, otherwise I shall have the whole matter thoroughly investigated and let the blame fall where it belongs.

Very respectfully &c.
