Sir,

Harrison Ames, Freedman, makes complaint [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] at this Office, in which he states that he has worked your land this summer, and that [[he]] is not realizing what is due him for his labor_ [[and]] also states that you are selling the Cotton raised by his labor, and appropriating the entire proceeds to [[your]] self. In view [[strikethrough]] thereof, [[/strikethrough]] of statements made by said Harrison in his Complaint, you are hereby ordered to report at this office Wednesday. Oct 21st 1868, for the purpose of having this matter adjusted; bring all Books [[and]] papers pertaining to the business between you, also [[such]] witnesses as you may desire to make statements concerning questions at issue- You are directed to dispose of no [part]] of the crop worked by Harrison until the case is settled. [Your]] strict compliance with the above will save further trouble to all concerned.
