The Governor's story of the Reindeer Horn 77.700 lbs on hand cost 2 skilling (1 cent American) per lb. Not likely to do good to anyone as the Company has advised not to ship any more as the 4,500 lbs sent them did not pay expense of shipment to Copenhagen. I think if this [[insertion]] [[amt.?]] [[/insertion]] was in the States good use would be made of it - say for Buttons - handles for Knives etc.
All hands have been [[strikethrough]] Been [[/strikethrough]] hauling up in the big anchor this afternoon. Although the windlass is not repaired. The Anchor is now up! & everybody happy! Now for the "West-Side" as they call it here. I must finish my letters ^[[insertion]] for the States [[/insertion]] as another fair wind like to-day will find us away - Pulling on the ropes ^[[insertion]] this PM. [[/insertion]] side by side with the cheerful willing Esquimaux reminded me strongly of the opinion many have at home of their savage cruel nature! Why they are glorious good fellows! Instead of eating a man up, they would ^[[insertion]] sooner have [[/insertion]] [[strikethrough]] let [[/strikethrough]] a [[underlined]] hungry [[/underlined]] man eat them up

without saying a word, unless it was ^ [[insertion]] to say: [[/insertion]] [[underlined]] 'Welcome stranger! long as [[strikethrough]] what [[/strikethrough]] I have, you shall share with me!! [[/underlined]] This is just their nature!
Would to God this kind of people were more numerous, all over the World!
The days that we have been here, I have seen much of the inhabitants [[strikethrough]] here [[/strikethrough]] My opinion as to their honesty good-nature & good-will - & great hospitality is [[insertion]] now [[/insertion]] strong & unmixed. They possess these virtues to an eminent degree. The vices so prominent & prevalent in the States ^[[insertion]] are [[/insertion]] unknown to this people. The test to which they have been put on the " George Henry" is enough to satisfy any man that they are honest. We have now been here 14 days & during this time large numbers of Esquimaux of all ages & of both sexes have almost constantly been aboard. Not the slightest thing has been missed by any one of us, We do not think of [[underlined]] "keeping an eye" [[/underlined]] on this or that, valuable & exposed as it may be. Let their desire ^[[insertion]] for [[/insertion]] any trinket or valuable article [[insertion]] for some so strong, [[/insertion]] we may possess ^[[insertion]] if [[/insertion]] we place that down - matters not where - we shall [[strikethrough]] you will [[/strikethrough]] find ^ [[insertion]] it[[underlined]] still untouched [[/underlined]] [[strikethrough]] there [[/strikethrough]] for ought that any Esquimaux will do. God has certainly blessed this people with most noble virtues!
