Saturday July 21, 1860

The Governor's Blacksmith & "Sterry" engaged repairing the Windlass. Altho the ^[[insertion]] big [[/insertion]] Anchor swings [[insertion]] place [[/insertion]] at his place at the bow of the ship, [[strikethrough]] we [[/strikethrough]] yet we now await [[strikethrough]] tomorrow [[/strikethrough]] said repair. Yesterday I bought 3 lot "Coperlins"- little fish & about the size sardines - They are taken [[strikethrough]] from the water [[/strikethrough]] in nets & then spread upon the rock to dry.
For 6 Skillings ^[[insertion]] (3 cents) [[/insertion] can buy a bushel. They are for dog food, though very good for man. Every one likes them. The natives live much of their time on this fish.
When long journeys are undertaken these fish are [[strikethrough]] then [[/strikethrough]] very convenient - [[insertion]] from their [[/insertion]] lightness.

Hands off at a dance with the Esquimaux Capt. B. & I walked deck conversing freely upon various topics.
At 11'o'clock this night hands returned from shore. Everyone will rest down both inside & outside. Sterry's garments are wringing wet. 

Sunday, July 22d 1860
During the morning tried the ablutant qualities of water &+ soap freely distributing them over my [[body overwritten with system]] - then read my Bible & other good Books.   In the P.M. desiring exercise & to see & study
Nature, I invited "Smith" to take a walk with me out upon the mountains.
