Esquimaux came to the landing at the front of the hill leading up to Holsteinborg.  As we neared the shore, we saw soon the rocks [[insertion]] on the hill before me [[/insertion]] black with the inhabitants of the town which of course includes the dogs and [[Goats?]] as well as Danes & Esquimaux.
On the shore awaiting  our boat, were the crews of the George Henry & Rescue.  This was their farewell visit to Holsteinborg, therefore soon as they had pushed out a pistol-shot distance on the water, they ^[[insertion]] turned & [[/insertion]] gave three cheers - great heartfelt ones - [[strikethrough]] which [[/strikethrough]]  [[insertion]] which [[/insertion]] signified: Farewell good friends, we thank you from your kindness & will remember you forever!
Following three cheers by our boys were ^[[insertion]] 3 [[/insertion] cheers by the Greenlanders - Male & Female.  This parting exhibited several scenes worthy of notice.  Almost every evening during ^[[insertion]] our [[/insertion]] stay - 17 Days - in the harbor of Holsteinborg the "boys" were invited to dances [[strikethrough]] in v [[/strikethrough]] with the Esquimaux. Acquaintances [[refined?]] as interviews increased friendship became established.  In

some cases Love ^[[insertion]] finally [[/insertion]] ruled supreme. On this parting I saw more than 1 pair of eyes moistened. I say it to no ones discredit: many eyes of our people, also, were darkened as the gloom of this parting came upon them.
I hastened on up to the Governor's with my letters.  He [[insertion]] & his deputy [[/insertion]] met me, heartily pressing [[strikethrough]] me [[/strikethrough]] me into [[strikethrough]] his [[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] The Governor's' [[/insertion]] mansion.  Everyone in the settlement ^[[insertion]] now [[/insertion]]knew of our early departure.  Boat after boat [[insertion]] full of Esquimaux [[/insertion]] was to be seen hastening to the vessels.  
Seated fairly up in the office room, I added a few words to the letter Home, to my dearest Ann - a few words to the letter to Henry Grinnell Esq N.Y. my most noble friend & supporter, & Sealed them up delivering all letters to the hands of Governor Elbery who had kindly offered to carry them to [[God-haab?]] -haab where he is shortly intending to visit - & from whence a Government vessel is to sail for Copenhagen next Sept.  I was then invited down
