The wind still southward thus leaving us still to beat up against it.
The place on Bay we are attempting to reach is "Oo-Kood-leer" Lat. 63°-20' Longitude not determined - a point south on nearly so ^[[insertion]] I should say [[/insertion]] "Sanderson's Tower."
Head-winds have been our great obstacles since leaving the States. Now for [[blank space for insertion of number later]] days have we been beating up to this place from [[insertion]] near [[/insertion]] Cape Mercy.

He found them growing in the hold of the vessel where our potatoes are kept. I have a potato sprout which he gave me measuring 1 foot in length. Had me some fit, unctuous earth aboard, we could grow a crop of excellent potatoes. The English Whalers ^[[insertion]] have [[/insertion]] make a general practice of doing this. I intended while at
